What Holsters Do You Recommend for the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .38 Special?

Seeking Advice on Holsters for the Bodyguard .38 Special

I’ve recently acquired a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .38 Special, and I’m on the hunt for a suitable holster. There are so many options out there that it’s quite overwhelming. I want to ensure I’m not just picking the first one I see but rather finding something that’s comfortable and effective for concealed carry.

What to Consider

When choosing a holster, I think there are a few key points to consider:

  • Comfort: Since I plan to carry it daily, comfort is paramount. I’m trying to understand the difference between IWB (Inside the Waistband) and OWB (Outside the Waistband) holsters. Which do you all prefer?
  • Material: I’ve seen holsters made of leather, kydex, and hybrid options. Which material has worked best for you in terms of durability and comfort?
  • Retention: Some holsters have retention straps while others do not. What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth the extra step?
  • Accessibility: In self-defense scenarios, being able to draw quickly is crucial. Any recommendations on designs that allow for quick access while still being concealed?

My Thoughts So Far

I’ve read a lot about different brands, but I’m raw on experience. Some brands like CrossBreed, Alien Gear, and Galco keep popping up in my searches. Anyone have experiences—good or bad—with these?

I’m looking for something that balances quality with price. I don’t want to break the bank, but I also don’t want to compromise on safety.

Community Recommendations

If anyone has suggestions or even links to specific holsters they’ve found helpful, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if there are any particular types to steer clear of, that would be great to know too. Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking forward to the insights from this community!

I highly recommend looking into inside-the-waistband (IWB) holsters for the Bodyguard .38. They offer excellent concealment and comfort. Brands like CrossBreed and Alien Gear have great options.

I agree! IWB has been my go-to, but I also find OWB holsters really comfortable for range days.

For OWB, I like the Galco KingTuk. It’s adjustable and very comfortable for all-day wear. Plus, it fits snugly, keeping the gun concealed well.

I’ve heard great things about the KingTuk! I prefer a pocket holster for my Bodyguard since it’s compact and easy to conceal.

Pocket holsters can be great, but make sure to choose one with a good retention feature. My DeSantis holster works perfectly. No worries about it slipping out!

I tried an ankle holster once, but it was uncomfortable for me. It seems good for certain situations, though, like when you wear loose pants.

I found the same with ankle holsters! They feel awkward when walking but can be handy if you’re going for a more tactical look.

Anyone has experience with hybrid holsters? They combine IWB and OWB features, and I’m curious if they are worth it!

I’ve used a hybrid holster before. It was more versatile, but I found them bulky for everyday carry.

That’s interesting, I find the bulk helps with distribution weight! But I can see how someone might prefer something more streamlined.

I personally love the versatility of IWB, but I’ve also heard a lot about how comfortable the Old Faithful holster is!

I’ve been considering Old Faithful too! Do they make it in a left-hand configuration?

Yes! They do offer versions for lefties. Definitely worth checking out if you need that configuration.

I’ve come across some mixed reviews about the retention on certain pocket holsters. It’s essential to test them out and find what’s best for you.

Good point! Retention is crucial! I think the comfort fit leads to the best accessibility overall.

For real though, it’s all about personal preference. Like, I once met a guy who swore by his fanny pack holster! To each their own!

Haha, that’s wild! If it works for him, more power to him! Sometimes the unconventional can be surprisingly useful.

I’m looking for a durable holster for my Bodyguard .38. I’ve always preferred leather for its comfort and style, but I’m curious about how it holds up over time. Any recommendations?

Have you considered Kydex? It’s super tough and retains the gun well. I find it comfortable for daily carry.
