What Are Your Thoughts on Hornady 20 Gauge SST Slugs?

Seeking Feedback on Hornady 20 Gauge SST Slugs

I’ve been doing some research on Hornady 20 gauge SST slugs for deer hunting, and I’m curious to gather some personal experiences and insights from fellow hunters. Are these slugs really as effective as they claim? Below are some points I’d love feedback on:

Performance and Accuracy

  • How do these slugs perform in terms of accuracy?
  • What kind of distances are you comfortable shooting with them?
  • Are they consistent in delivering tight groups?

Sighting In Your Firearm

  • Any tips on sighting in for these slugs? I want to ensure I’m on target come hunting season.
  • Do you prefer using a certain type of sight (like open sights vs. optics) with these slugs?

Comparison with Other Types

  • Have you compared the Hornady SST slugs to any other brands or types (like regular rifled slugs or other sabot slugs)? How do they stack up?
  • Do you feel that the added cost of Hornady is worth it compared to others?

General Effectiveness

  • For those who have successfully taken deer with the SST slugs, can you share your experiences?
  • What’s been the reaction of the game when hit with these slugs?

Your input and experiences will really help me make a decision on whether to go with these slugs or explore other options. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I’ve had great success with Hornady 20 Gauge SST slugs in wet conditions. They maintain accuracy even in rain, making them reliable for hunting.

That’s interesting! How do they perform in snow? I’m curious about their penetration in icy terrain.

In my experience, the SST slugs are worth it. They shoot straight and have good knockdown power, even in thick brush. Just make sure to aim wisely.

Absolutely! I had a clean pass-through on a deer at 50 yards last season. Low winds help with accuracy too.

I use these slugs in various terrains, and I haven’t seen any issues with penetration on smaller game. They really do the trick, even in the woods.

Good to know! What kind of game have you taken down with them? I’m looking for specific examples.

So far, I’ve taken down deer and wild boar with the SST slugs. They perform excellently! Not a single wounded animal since I started using them.

That sounds awesome! I wonder how they hold up against larger animals like elk or bear. Anyone tried that yet?

I haven’t used them on large game like elk, but I can definitely recommend them for medium-sized animals. They pack a punch when needed!

Remember, shot placement is critical, especially in challenging weather. Anyone had trouble with them in strong winds?

I’ve only faced minor issues in wind, but nothing that couldn’t be compensated for. So far, I’m impressed with the slugs’ stability.

Honestly, these slugs are like the Swiss Army knife of ammo for me. They’ll work in any situation, rain or shine! Makes hunting a lot easier.

Haha, that’s a fun way to put it! Just don’t try using them for everything — like fishing! Might not work out.

True, though I’d still be curious! On a serious note, does anyone have any long-term feedback on how they wear barrels over time?

I’ve been using Hornady 20 Gauge SST Slugs for deer hunting, and I have to say, they are incredibly accurate. The performance is impressive compared to other brands I’ve tried. Anyone else have a similarly positive experience?

I completely agree! I switched from Remington slugs to Hornady, and the difference in accuracy is noticeable. Plus, there’s less kick, which is great.

While I find the Hornady SST Slugs to be reliable, my personal preference is for Federal Premium Slugs. They have similar accuracy but a bit more power, in my experience.

Does anyone feel the recoil on these SST slugs is manageable? I’ve shot a few different brands, and the recoil on the Hornady is surprisingly mild!

I’ve noticed the same! The recoil is much lighter compared to some others like Winchester’s slugs. It definitely makes for a more comfortable shoot.
