What are the best cold weather hunting mittens?

Right? Fitting can be such a hassle sometimes! Who knew mittens could be so tricky? Anyway, I’m also curious about the best brands for women’s sizes since my spouse struggles to find the right fit.

I hear you, tony08! I think brands like North Face and Outdoor Research have women’s sizes that cater well to fit and warmth, but I’d love some input on actual experiences with their mittens.

I have a pair from Outdoor Research, and they’re great! They keep my hands warm, and the fit is perfect for my smaller hands.

Why does it always come down to sizing? Seems like a conspiracy! But yeah, definitely pay attention to that. I learned the hard way when I bought a pair meant for ‘one size fits all’ and they were a disaster!

Haha, so true! It’s like mittens have a secret sizing code. Reflecting on all this, I think investing in a good pair is definitely worth it in the long run!

I’m searching for the best cold weather hunting mittens too! I’ve heard good things about the Black Diamond Mercury Mitts. Anyone tried them?

Yes, those are great! They’re super warm and waterproof, but I felt they lacked dexterity for trigger pulling. Does anyone else agree?

I can vouch for the Cabela’s Deluxe Cold Weather Mittens. They keep my hands snug in temperatures well below freezing! However, the bulk can be a drawback for some.

That’s a good point! It’s tough to find a pair that balances warmth and dexterity. I’ve tried the Sitka Gear Mitts, which are pretty good for that.

What about the Kuiu Mitts? I’ve heard they’re lightweight but warm. Just wondering if they hold up against extreme cold.

I own Kuiu Mitts. They are excellent for layering and so far have kept my hands warm during hunts. Just be sure to adjust them right before heading out!

Has anyone had experience with the Under Armour Scent Control Mitts? They’re marketed to be good for cold weather and odor control.

I tried those last winter. They were decent, but I wouldn’t rely on them in really frigid conditions for long periods.

For the coldest days, I recommend the Outdoor Research Alti Mitts. The built-in liner is amazing, but they can feel a bit heavy to carry.

Hilarious, I once wore my grandpa’s old wool mittens while hunting! They didn’t warm up until I was almost done. But at least I had a story! :joy:

Those are on my list too! How is the insulation? I want something that lasts through long sits.

The insulation is solid, Matthew! I’ve sat for hours in the Alti Mitts without feeling my fingers freeze. Just make sure to air them out after use.
