Walther PPK vs PPK/S: Which One Should I Choose?

I’m currently trying to decide between the Walther PPK and the PPK/S for concealed carry and I’m hoping to get some insight from those who have experience with either (or both) models.

Here are a few key points I’m considering:

  • Size and Weight: I know the PPK is slightly smaller and might be easier to conceal, but is the difference that significant in real-world use?
  • Grip and Comfort: I’ve read that the PPK/S has a larger grip due to the added thickness from the PPK’s exposed backstrap. Does this really affect how comfortable it is to shoot?
  • Performance: What’s the accuracy and reliability like for each model? Any issues or advantages that either has over the other?
  • Personal Preference: How have others felt about their choice? Would you go with the classic PPK or the variant PPK/S if you had to do it all over again?

I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences to help me make a more informed choice. Thanks!

I’ve been looking into the Walther PPK and PPK/S for a while. The main difference in size is that the PPK is a bit smaller and lighter, making it a great option for concealed carry. However, the PPK/S has a slightly longer barrel, which might improve accuracy. Anyone have experience with both?

That’s a great point, robinscott! I love how easy the PPK feels in hand, but the PPK/S’ added weight really helps with recoil management. It’s a tough choice!

Both models have their merits. The PPK is iconic and more historic, but if you’re looking for a gun with a bit more ‘oomph’ in terms of comfort while firing, the PPK/S might be better. Barrel length does make a difference!

I had a chance to shoot both at the range. The PPK felt more nimble, whereas the PPK/S was steadier when firing. But the extra weight made it a tad less comfortable for long sessions. Just something to consider!

Totally agree, eclark! The nimbleness of the PPK is great for quick draws, but the PPK/S feels more stable overall, especially in .380.

I personally lean towards the PPK for its classic design and lighter weight. The differences in size and barrel really come down to personal preference and intended use.

Both are amazing choices! Just keep in mind the PPK/S has a unique stainless finish option that some may prefer for aesthetics and durability. Anyone consider that while choosing?

Good point, christinabarnes! That finish does give the PPK/S a sleek look. I wonder if it affects the grip or handling at all? Anyone care to share?

I think a lot of it comes down to what feels good in your hand. Both models are well-built. Just make sure you try them out before deciding. You don’t want to regret the choice later!

I’ve heard mixed opinions about the two. Some say the PPK feels outdated compared to the PPK/S. What’s everyone’s take on that? Is the classic aesthetic worth it?

Honestly, garzarachel, I think the classic charm of the PPK is unbeatable! But I can see how others prefer a more modern feel with the PPK/S. It’s all about personal taste!

I’ve owned both and I can say that the PPK tends to have slightly better accuracy due to its weight distribution. The PPK/S is a bit bulkier, which affects handling, especially in rapid firing situations.

That’s interesting! I’ve heard the PPK/S has less recoil because of its weight, which might be better for beginners. What do you think?

Great point! The PPK/S does handle recoil better in my experience, but I’ve noticed a slight trade-off in terms of speed for target acquisition. It can be a little slower to draw.

Both models have excellent reliability under normal conditions, but the PPK can sometimes have issues in really low temperatures. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I’ve heard that! Also, maintenance on the PPK/S seems easier due to the larger frame. Thoughts?

Absolutely! The PPK/S is easier to clean and maintain. I feel like a well-maintained firearm is key in ensuring reliability, especially in challenging environments.

On the topic of reliability, I love that both pistols are known for functioning well, even after significant use. It makes them dependable for everyday situations.

That’s true! What about in terms of concealability? I’ve found the PPK to be a little easier to conceal.
