Upgrading My Ruger American Ranch Trigger - Any Suggestions?

I’ve been looking into upgrading the trigger on my Ruger American Ranch rifle, and I’m hoping to get some advice from fellow enthusiasts. The factory trigger has been decent, but I’m interested in improving its performance for better accuracy and feel. Here’s what I’m considering:

What I’m Looking For

  • Trigger Feel: A smoother pull with a lighter weight would be ideal.
  • Adjustability: Is there a trigger that’s easy to adjust?
  • Reliability: I need something that’s proven reliable under field conditions.

Some Triggers I’ve Heard About

  • Timney Triggers: I’ve read a lot about them. Are they easy to install?
  • Huber Concepts: How do they compare in terms of performance?
  • Ruger Replacement Triggers: Are they worth considering or should I go aftermarket?

Key Questions

  1. Installation: How difficult is it to install these triggers? Should I attempt it myself or go to a gunsmith?
  2. Cost vs. Performance: What’s a good price range for a quality trigger upgrade?
  3. Firsthand Experiences: If anyone has made the upgrade, what should I expect in terms of noticeable improvements?

I appreciate any tips, brands to consider, or overall guidance. Looking forward to the discussion!

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my Ruger American Ranch trigger too! I’ve heard great things about Timney triggers. They’re known for their smooth pull and minimal creep.

Timney is a solid choice! I recently installed one and couldn’t be happier. It really enhances the shooting experience.

Don’t overlook the Ruger factory upgrade. It’s a bit pricier, but it maintains that Ruger reliability while improving performance.

True, the factory option is great, but I’ve heard it lacks the feel of aftermarket triggers like Timney and Geissele.

I would recommend looking into the Huber Concepts triggers. They are adjustable and some users say they feel like a match trigger.

I just have to ask, is it really worth the upgrade? My stock trigger feels fine for the most part!

It depends on your shooting style! If you’re looking for precision, it might be beneficial to upgrade.

I think it also depends on what you plan to use the rifle for. If it’s for hunting, a crisp trigger can make all the difference.

Exactly! My first range visit with a new Timney was a game-changer. It felt like a whole new rifle.

Is installation hard for the Timney triggers? I’ve never done any trigger work before.

Not really! There are great tutorials online, and most users say it can be done with basic tools.

I’ve watched a few YouTube tutorials, and they make it look so easy. Just make sure you take your time and follow the steps!

Has anyone tried the trigger from CMC Triggers? I’ve heard they are well-made and have great reviews.

I haven’t tried CMC specifically, but I have heard mixed feedback. Some folks love them, others say they’re not worth it.

I often wonder if all this talk about upgrades is just a marketing gimmick. Can you ever really improve a good rifle?

That’s a fair point! Sometimes, simplicity is key. But other times, those little adjustments can yield surprising results.

I’ve done some adjustments on my Ruger American Ranch trigger. You can reduce the pull weight by using the adjustment screw on the back of the trigger assembly. Just be careful not to go too low, or it could lead to an accidental discharge.

Thanks for the heads-up! Have you noticed any difference in accuracy after adjusting the trigger?

I’ve noticed that reducing the creep makes a significant difference. A smoother trigger pull can really help with grouping at the range. Just take your time during adjustments.
