Savage Model 10 vs 110: Which One Should I Choose?

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately and I’m really torn between the Savage Model 10 and the Savage Model 110. Both rifles seem to have a lot to offer, but I’m struggling to pinpoint the key differences that would influence my decision.

Key Differences to Consider

  1. Action Length:
I’ve read that the Model 10 is typically a short action, which could be beneficial if I’m planning on using it for quick follow-up shots. However, the Model 110 offers both short and long action options, which might be more versatile if I’m considering a wider range of cartridges.

  2. Accuracy and Barrel Options:
I’ve heard that the Model 10 often has a reputation for exceptional accuracy right out of the box, possibly due to its heavier barrel. On the other hand, I’ve seen some reviews praising Model 110 for its quality as well; does the barrel length and weight really make that much of a difference in real-world scenarios?

  3. Ergonomics and Feel:
This aspect is quite subjective, but has anyone experienced both models? How do they handle? Is one noticeably more comfortable than the other for extended shooting sessions?

  4. Price Point:
From what I’ve gathered, prices can vary quite a bit depending on the specific configurations you choose. Are there certain configurations in either model that provide better value for someone just getting into shooting or hunting?

Intended Use

I’m looking to use the rifle mainly for target shooting and potentially some deer hunting in the future. Given that, which model do you think fits better for both of these uses?

Conclusion

If you have experience with either model or have insights about their performance, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Are there certain features you’ve found that really stand out, or potential shortcomings I should be aware of? Thank you in advance for your help! Let’s compare notes!

I recently compared the Savage Model 10 and 110 at the range. Overall, the 10 seemed a bit more accurate for me, especially using lighter loads. However, the 110 had better recoil management with heavier rounds.

That’s interesting! I have read that the Model 10 generally has a more refined barrel. Have you noticed any specific ammo types that worked particularly well with it?

In my experience, the Model 110 handles recoil much better and is more versatile in terms of ammunition choices. It’s worth considering if you plan to shoot a mix of rounds.

Very good point! I guess it also depends on how heavy a shooter you are. I hunt more, and I prefer a model that mitigates fatigue during longer outings.

Both models have their strengths, but I’ve found the Model 10 has a slight edge in accuracy for precision shooting. You really can’t go wrong, though. It boils down to personal preference!

So true! I think it might be due to the slightly shorter barrel design. What types of scenarios are you planning to use either for?

Honestly, if you’re looking for a rifle to chase deer, the Model 110 is fantastic! It’s built sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of hunting. But Model 10 is great for long-range targeting.

I’m a little torn now between both models! I’m also curious – how do either handle with heavier calibers? I’d love to use it for moose hunting.

The 110 is usually better suited for larger calibers and manages recoil like a champ, but don’t underestimate the 10 with the right ammo! It could surprise you during moose hunts.

I appreciate the advice! Do you guys think a custom barrel would enhance performance in either model?

Definitely! A custom barrel could provide improved accuracy and better handling. I’d recommend it if you’re serious about precision shooting, especially with the Model 10.

That’s a great perspective! Customizing can definitely make a difference, but it also means more costs. Is it worth it?

Depends on your budget and how often you plan to shoot. For some, the cost is justified for improved performance. For casual use, the stock models are more than adequate.

True! Sometimes simple is better. Plus, you avoid the whole ‘do I really need a custom barrel?’ dilemma!

Haha, exactly! But if money were no object, I’d go for the Model 10 with a custom setup. Just think of the bragging rights at the range!

I’m considering the Savage Model 10, mainly for its customization options. It’s got a solid reputation for accuracy, especially with aftermarket barrels and triggers.

The Model 110 is also worth a look! It’s very adaptable with plenty of aftermarket support for scopes and stocks.

I’ve seen some amazing modifications on both models. The Model 10 has a unique advantage in stock customization—lots of choices for length and fit!

So true! The 110 can handle heavy-duty scopes nicely, which can really enhance your shooting experience.
