Need Help with Beartooth Bullets Load Data for .44 Magnum

I’m diving into reloading, and I’ve recently picked up some Beartooth bullets for my .44 Magnum. I’ve heard a lot about their performance, but I want to make sure I’m getting the load data right to maximize accuracy and safety.

What I’m Looking For

To be more specific, I need recommendations on:

  • Powder types: What are the best powders to use with Beartooth bullets?
  • Load weights: What are some effective grain weights for different applications (like hunting vs. target shooting)?
  • OAL (Overall Length): What should I be aiming for in terms of OAL?
  • Charge recommendations: Any specific charges anyone has had great success with that you can share?

My Setup

I have a standard .44 Magnum revolver and I’m ideally looking to develop loads that are accurate for both target shooting and possibly hunting as I get more comfortable with reloading.

I’ve seen some discussions floating around regarding .444 Marlin as well, so if you have any insights or relevant data for that cartridge, I’d love to hear it!

General Thoughts

I appreciate all the help the community provides. Reloading can be daunting with all the variables in play, and I’m looking for advice based on real experiences.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share!

Hey folks! I’m new to loading Beartooth Bullets for .44 Magnum. What’s everyone using for powder? I’m aiming for a good balance between recoil and velocity.

I love using Hodgdon H110 for .44 Magnum. It delivers great velocity and accuracy with Beartooth Bullets. Just make sure to watch those max loads!

I’ve had success with Accurate No. 9 as well. It’s versatile and provides consistent performance. Anyone else tried this powder?

I’ve used it! It works well, but don’t go overboard with the charges. Consistency is key for accuracy.

I usually prefer Alliant 2400. It gives me a nice kick without being too harsh. What’s a good seating depth for the Beartooth bullets?

I’ve found about 1.60 inches works well for the 240-grain Beartooth bullets. Just keep it consistent!

Does anyone have a preferred velocity goal for hunting? I’m aiming for the sweet spot of power while keeping my recoil manageable.

For me, hitting around 1200-1300 fps has been optimal for hunting with .44 Magnum.

I agree with lance76. It’s enough for taking down game but still gives manageable recoil. Anyone experimented with different bullet coatings?

I’ve only used the conventional lead. I hear the moly-coated ones can improve performance. Any insights?

I tried moly-coated bullets once, but couldn’t tell much difference in accuracy. They did clean a bit easier, though!

That’s a plus! I’m all about less cleaning. Do you think the accuracy differs much based on firearm type?

Absolutely! Different barrels can react quite differently to loads. Experimenting is key with different guns.

So true. Speaking of experimenting, does anyone have a favorite plinking load they can share? Something fun and low recoil?

I load the 200-grain Beartooth with 8.0 grains of Unique. Super fun for a day at the range!

That sounds like a blast, Manuel! Might have to try that out. Just don’t forget your ear protection – that .44 can be a real earful!

I’m glad to see someone diving into Beartooth Bullets for .44 Magnum! They’ve set a solid reputation for accuracy. I primarily use them in my Ruger Super Blackhawk, and the results have been impressive.

I’ve heard great things about their expansion, too! Have you tried them at different ranges?

I can confirm that! My .44 Magnum load gives consistent performance at both 25 and 50 yards. The expansion is very reliable on game as well. Definitely worth experimenting with!
