Looking for Winchester StaBALL HD Load Data

Seeking Advice on Winchester StaBALL HD Reloading Data

I’ve been doing a lot of reading about reloading and came across Winchester’s StaBALL HD powder. It seems to be generating a lot of buzz in the community, and I’m curious about how it performs in various setups.

Here’s what I’m trying to find out:

  • Optimal Bullet Weights: What bullet weights have you found work best with StaBALL HD? I’m preparing some loads for different calibers, and I’d love to hear your experiences.
  • Starting and Max Load Values: I’m particularly looking for starting and maximum load values. Seeing the specifics can really make a difference in safely optimizing my loads.
  • Performance Under Different Conditions: Has anyone tested how StaBALL HD performs in different temperatures or humidity levels? I know that can affect powder performance, and I’m wondering if it’s particularly sensitive to these conditions.
  • Comparative Performance: If you’ve used other powders, how does StaBALL HD stack up against them? Any insights on stability, consistency, or accuracy?

Background Info

I’m relatively new to reloading, and I want to ensure that I approach this with the best practices in mind. I focus mainly on precision shooting and would like to enhance my loads for competition shooting. Any guidance you can share based on your experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

That’s good to know, Gingham! I mostly reload for 5.56. Do you think StaBALL HD could be a good fit for that caliber too?

Absolutely, margaretruiz! StaBALL HD is known for its effectiveness in both .223 and 5.56. It has some excellent burn rate characteristics that work well in those calibers.

I find StaBALL HD to be quite easy to measure and work with compared to other powders. It’s great for those just starting with reloading.

I totally agree, Kathy! Also, the lower sensitivity to temperature changes is a game-changer for me here in the Midwest.

I tried StaBALL HD once and it clogged my measure. Maybe I just had a bad batch? I’ve heard great things about the powder, but my experience was not great.

That’s unfortunate, Alan! I’ve been using it for a while and haven’t had that issue. Did you check the humidity or temperature before using it?

Good point, mallorynguyen. The environment can significantly impact powder performance. StaBALL HD is usually very reliable, so I wonder if conditions affected your results, Alan.

While StaBALL HD has its benefits, I prefer stick powders for my precision loads. How do you all feel about the consistency of ball powders versus stick powders? Is it really that noticeable?

I think it depends on what you’re loading for, Martin. For rapid-fire shooting, ball powders can excel. For precision, I’ve found stick powders generally offer more accuracy.

I used some StaBALL HD for my pistol loads, but I’m wondering if it would perform similarly in shotguns. Have any of you done that?

I haven’t tried it for shotguns, but if it works in rifles and pistols, it might surprise you! Just make sure to consult the load data for shotguns first.

That’s such a good idea, parkjodi! StaBALL HD could potentially offer some interesting results in shotguns. It’s always worth experimenting with load data.

I’ve recently switched to StaBALL HD, and while I find it works great, I do think comparing it with others in various conditions is essential to form a complete opinion.

Absolutely! With each reload, I learn something new, and it’s great when we can share experiences like this.

I’m looking for safe load data for Winchester StaBALL HD as well! Has anyone experimented with it for .308? Would love to know the recommended bullet types and weights.

I’ve used StaBALL HD with 165 grain Sierra GameKing bullets in my .308. I’ve found a charge weight of 43.5 grains to be very consistent and accurate!
