Looking for Tips on RCBS X Die 223 Reloading

Seeking Advice on Reloading with RCBS X Die 223

Hey folks! I’ve recently started getting into reloading my own .223 ammo and came across the RCBS X-die set. I’ve been reading up on various options and it seems like the X-die is pretty popular among reloaders.

Here’s what I’m trying to figure out:

  • Is the RCBS X-die a solid choice for a beginner?
I’ve never reloaded before and want to ensure I’m starting with good equipment.
  • What are your thoughts on the performance of the small base sizer die versus the standard one?
I understand that .223 can be finicky when it comes to chambering, especially in semi-autos, so I want to make sure I’m covering all my bases.
  • Are there any specific tips or tricks you’d recommend for using these dies?
I’ve read a few things about setting up the sizing die correctly and keeping the correct dimensions, but personal experiences would help a lot.
  • And finally, where’s the best place to purchase these?
I want to make sure I’m getting a good price, and I’m open to suggestions for reliable retailers.

I appreciate any help you can give! I’m excited to learn and get into reloading, but it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experiences with this equipment!

I’m also looking for tips on the RCBS X Die for .223. There are a couple of variants, and I’m unsure which features I need. Any advice?

Hey, clarkrichard! I’ve been using the X Die for a while. The main feature is its ability to reduce the need for trimming, which is a huge time saver.

That’s true, ashlee37! But make sure your brass is consistent; otherwise, you could have issues. What are you planning to shoot?

I’m mainly shooting for precision at the range. Should I consider the X Die over the standard ones for that?

Absolutely! The X Die is great for precision shooting. Just ensure it’s compatible with your rifle.

Also, remember to check if you need a specific shell holder for the X Die. It’s a small detail but can be a headache later.

Great point, hughesrachel! Sometimes those little things can derail a whole reloading session.

Really excited to try reloading with the X Die. Is there a specific variant you guys recommend?

The X Die in the .223 Remington is super popular! It tends to have excellent reviews, especially for accuracy.

Depending on your rifle, you might also want to look at the full-length resizing variant. It can help with feeding issues.

Thanks for the heads up, gdecker! I hadn’t considered that. Anyone know if it’s good for semi-autos?

Yes, it’s quite effective for semi-autos! I’ve used it for my AR-15 with great results.

I feel like the feature that stands out is the reduced trimming. But does anyone find that it wears out faster than other dies?

Not really! With proper care, mine has held up great. Plus, I think the benefits outweigh any wear issues.

I wish reloading wasn’t such a science! But these die discussions sure help demystify things. I’m literally learning loads.

It’s a learning curve, but once you get it, it’s very rewarding! Keep asking questions, and don’t hesitate to experiment.

Thanks for all the tips! It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in this reloading journey. Let’s keep the knowledge flowing!

When setting up the RCBS X Die, make sure to adjust the sizing die to just touch the shell holder. It minimizes case stretch and helps you achieve consistent neck tension.
