Reloading and Ammunition

  • For those of you who load your own ammo, what powder and bullet combinations have you found most effective?
  • How do different loads impact the recoil and overall shooting experience?
  • Are there any specific factory loads you would recommend for big game hunting?

Scope Recommendations

  • I’m also in the market for a good scope. What magnification levels have you found best suited for hunting scenarios?
  • Are there particular brands or models that you swear by with the Browning BAR?

General Tips

  • Any general advice for someone new to using this rifle?
  • How have your experiences been in the field?

I appreciate any help or guidance you all can provide as I get acclimated with this rifle. I’m eager to learn from your experiences and hopefully contribute back to the community in the future!

I’ve been using the Browning BAR in 7mm Mag for a few seasons. The ballistics are fantastic. I find the 160-grain Nosler AccuBond really helps with accuracy and punch on big game.

What velocities are you getting with that load, David? I’m considering something similar but want to know what to expect.

If you want accurate performance, make sure to check your scope. A good setup can enhance the BAR’s potential tremendously, especially at longer ranges.

Good point! What scopes do you guys recommend for the Browning BAR? I’ve been eyeing some mid-range options.

I’ve had success with a Leupold VX-3 on mine. It holds zero well, plus the optics are clear. You’ll appreciate the difference in low light conditions!

That’s a solid choice, Kyle! I’ve heard good things about their durability, especially when hunting in rugged terrain.

Everyone talks about how good their loads are. Has anyone tried the 175-grain Partitions? I’m curious about their performance for larger game.

I think it comes down to your hunting scenario. For open fields, I prefer the lighter bullets; thicker areas, I’d go heavy. What do you all think?

Just remember, shot placement is everything. A well-placed shot with a lighter grain can outperform heavier rounds if you’re accurate.

Exactly! But let’s also appreciate the fact that the BAR can be a bit heavy for some. Practicality is key too!

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Browning BAR 7mm Mag and I’m looking for tips on keeping it in top shape. Any advice on cleaning or lubrication techniques would be super helpful!

Definitely do a thorough cleaning after each outing. I use a good gun cleaning solvent and a bore brush for the barrel. It keeps everything functioning smoothly!

I’ve found that regular lubrication is key! Especially in the moving parts near the bolt and action. Using a high-quality gun oil makes a noticeable difference in performance.

Absolutely! And don’t forget to wipe down the exterior to prevent rust, especially in wet conditions!

While cleaning is crucial, be careful not to over-lubricate. A little goes a long way! I usually apply oil sparingly to prevent any grime buildup.

Anyone had issues with misfeeds or jams? I’ve read that a good way to troubleshoot is to ensure your magazine is clean and free of debris.

That’s a great point! I’ve also noticed that using only high-quality ammo helps reduce misfeed issues significantly.
