Introduction
I’m considering picking up the Smith & Wesson Model 60 with a 3-inch barrel, and I’m keen to gather insights from those who have experience with it. This particular model has caught my eye due to its combination of compact size and reputed reliability, making it a strong contender for personal defense.
Performance Overview
From what I’ve gathered, the Model 60 is often praised for its accuracy and manageable recoil, thanks to the longer barrel which aids in shooting stability. I’ve seen discussions about the difference in handling between the standard 2-inch and this 3-inch variant, and it seems like the 3-inch offers a nice balance for concealed carry while still providing decent firepower.
Usability Factors
Another aspect I’m interested in is usability in real-life situations. How does it handle with various ammunition types? Is there a noticeable difference in terms of performance with standard pressure versus +P loads? Additionally, are there any specific grips or modifications that you all would recommend for better handling?
Concealed Carry Considerations
For those of you who carry this model, how does it stack up in terms of concealability? Is the weight and size manageable for extended daily carry? I’m particularly interested in your experiences with different holster options and how they adapt to everyday use.
Personal Experiences
If you own or have shot the Model 60, I’d love to hear your personal take. What do you think are its standout features and any drawbacks you’ve noticed? Any stories or practical experiences regarding its reliability would also be greatly appreciated.
Conclusion
I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and any advice you have. Your experiences could really help me and others make informed decisions regarding this revolver. Thanks in advance!

I’ve had my S&W Model 60 3 inch for about a year now and I love it! The accuracy is impressive for a snub-nose, especially with .38 Special. It’s definitely a keeper.
I totally agree! I’ve shot mine at various ranges and have consistently grouped within 2 inches at 15 yards. It’s really a joy to shoot.

What kind of ammo do you all find works best with the Model 60? I’ve heard mixed opinions about +P loads.

I’ve used +P loads in mine without issues, but it does increase recoil significantly. It’s a trade-off for that extra stopping power!
I appreciate the compact size! It fits nicely into my holster, and the build quality is top-notch. Definitely a reliable choice for carry.
Absolutely, I think the Model 60 is built to last. Have any of you had issues with the cylinder locking up? I’ve read that can happen sometimes.
I’ve never had that problem with mine! It consistently performs well, but I do clean it regularly. Maintenance is key.
How does the Model 60 compare to other snub-nosed revolvers? I’ve been looking into the Ruger Sp101 as well. Anyone with experience?
I had both! I find the Model 60 to be smoother on the trigger pull, but the Sp101 feels sturdier. Both are great in their own right.
Yeah, the trigger on the Model 60 is definitely a highlight. I was surprised by how light it feels for such a compact gun.

Isn’t it funny how we find ourselves comparing these revolvers? It’s like a romantic rivalry among firearms. Haha!
Haha, so true! Each one has its charms. I just focus on which one feels good in my hand while shooting.
I’ve had the Model 60 for about 6 months, and honestly, the accuracy keeps improving as I get used to it. It’s a great learning tool!
That’s a good point, getting accustomed to the trigger and sights makes a big difference in performance over time. What’s your range experience been like?
I’ve mostly shot at indoor ranges, and it’s handled well in both controlled and non-controlled environments. Very reliable!
Do you think the 3 inch barrel impacts accuracy compared to the 2 or 2.5 inches? I’ve heard mixed reviews about this too.
In my opinion, the longer barrel does help with sight radius and overall stability. The 3 inch is a sweet spot for snub-noses!
I’ve used the S&W Model 60 3 inch for years. The ergonomics are great; it fits well in my hand and I hardly notice the weight during long sessions at the range. It’s a solid choice for those looking for comfort during extended use.
I totally agree with you, Frances! I’ve found it very comfortable, though I do wonder about the weight for longer concealment. How do you handle that?
