I’ve been diving into building my first AR pistol, and I’m particularly interested in the .350 Legend chambering. I’ve done some research, but I’m hoping to gather more insights from those who have experience with a 10.5 inch barrel for this caliber.
Key Questions:
Barrel Quality: What brands have you found to have the best performance and reliability?
Ballistics: How does the barrel length impact ballistics for hunting or home defense? Are there significant advantages or sacrifices?
Build Tips: Any particular setups or parts you’d recommend that pair well with a 10.5 inch barrel?
Shooting Experience: How’s the recoil and accuracy with this setup?
I plan on using this mainly for home defense, so any advice or personal experiences would be massively appreciated. Also, if you know of any vendors or online stores with good deals on these barrels, that info would be invaluable!
I’ve been experimenting with a 10.5 inch barrel for my 350 Legend. I found the effective range is around 150 yards before the ballistics start to drop significantly. Compared to longer barrels, the drop in velocity is noticeable.
The 350 Legend is a great round, and with a 10.5 inch barrel, you can expect around 1,800 fps at the muzzle. This is definitely on the lower end compared to longer barrels, but it’s still effective for hunting within mid-range distances.
With a 16-inch barrel, you’d likely see about 2,200 fps. The trade-off is pretty significant. 10.5 inches is much handier but might lack the punch at longer ranges. What’s important depends on your specific use case.
I totally agree with @lawrencehickman! If you’re mainly hunting in close quarters or dense brush, the 10.5 inch could be the way to go. Plus, it makes for an awesome truck gun!
I’m all for the compact size of the 10.5 inch. I’ve heard some people debate whether it’s effective at all though. Do you think it’s good enough for deer in open fields?
For sure! And if I’m not mistaken, the bullet choice plays a big part too. A heavier bullet might give you better performance at those distances, right?
Absolutely! Using something like a 180 grain really helps maintain energy. Just keep in mind that the 10.5 inch barrel might struggle with some lighter rounds.
Just keep it fun! A 10.5 inch can shoot accurately at 100 yards if you’re steady. It’d be great for pest control! Just don’t expect to hit a bullseye at 300 yards unless you’ve got a really good hold!
Hey everyone! I’m looking to upgrade my 350 Legend with a 10.5 inch barrel and could use some advice on optics. I plan to use it primarily for hunting. Any recommendations?
@ukaufman, the Aimpoint Pro has a fantastic battery life, often lasting up to 3 years on setting 7! Perfect for those long hunting trips without worrying about the battery dying.
I just want to throw it out there that some folks prefer magnified optics for better accuracy, especially for longer ranges. A scope like the Vortex Crossfire II could be a nice fit.
