Looking for Deer Processing Recommendations in Lexington, KY

I’m getting ready for the hunting season and I could use some advice on where to take my deer for processing in Lexington, KY. I’ve heard about a few places like Showalter’s Country Meats and Markwell Processing, but I’m curious if anyone here has had experiences with them or other spots nearby.

What to Consider in Deer Processing:

  • Custom Cuts: What options do they offer in terms of cuts?
  • Quality: How do they handle the meat? Do they ensure it’s processed with care?
  • Pricing: What should I expect to pay for processing? Are there any hidden fees?
  • Turnaround Time: How long does it typically take to get my meat back?

Recommendations Wanted:

If you have a favorite processor or tips for making the most of the meat from a deer, please share! Also, if you know any other resources or must-try recipes once the deer is processed, I’d love to hear about those.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

I’m looking for recommendations too! I’ve heard good things about Lexington Deer Processing. Their pricing is pretty reasonable compared to others in the area.

I’ve used them last season, and I was really pleased with their quality. They took good care of my deer and even offered a few different cuts.

Yeah, Lexington Deer Processing is solid! Their sausage options are really popular. There are other places too, but they tend to be more expensive.

What did you pay for your processing? I want to make sure I budget right.

It was about $100, but I added some specialty cuts which increased the price a bit. Still worth it for the quality, though!

I went to Joe’s Processing last year because it was closer. They did an okay job but I thought their pricing was a bit high for what I got.

That’s a bummer! I’m really hoping to find a place that’s both reasonable and has great service.

If you’re looking for quality, consider Wilson’s Deer Processing. They might be a bit more expensive, but the quality of their meat is unmatched! I’ve been going there for years.

Sounds like they could be worth it! Just gotta balance quality against my budget.

I’ve always had a good experience at Clover Creek Processing too! They’re friendly and offer a variety of options for cuts and sausages.

Good to know! I’ll have to check them out if I don’t go with Lexington.

The competition is fierce, but what’s with all these varying prices? It seems like every processor charges differently for similar services.

Ha! It’s like the wild west of deer processing—everyone has their own prices and rules! Glad to hear folks have found some winners though.

That’s so true! Hopefully, more processors can step up their game to compete with the best.

Anyone know if these places offer any discounts for multiple deer? I want to save some cash for the holidays!

You might want to call them directly. I know some will offer deals if you bring in multiple deer. Definitely worth asking!

Thanks for all the tips, everyone! This community is amazing; I feel much more informed to make a decision.

Hey everyone! I’m looking to process my own deer this season and would love some tips. What tools do I need to get started?

You definitely need a good sharp knife, a boning knife, and some heavy-duty game bags! Don’t forget gloves for hygiene.
