Looking for 9mm 147gr Load Data Help

I’ve been diving into reloading for my 9mm lately, specifically using 147 grain bullets, and I’d love to hear from others who have experience with this. What are your go-to powder charges? I’m particularly curious about safe starting loads that still give great performance.

Here’s some of what I’m looking to achieve:

  • Consistency and accuracy for target shooting
  • Reliable expansion for self-defense rounds
  • Smoother recoil for competitive shooting

If you have any specific load recipes that work well for you or your favorite powder you’ve had good results with, please share! Additionally, any tips on bullet seating depth and crimping would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I highly recommend checking the Lyman 49th Edition Reloading Handbook. They have great load data for 9mm 147gr. Good resource for beginners and seasoned reloaders alike!

I’ve also found great recipes on Hodgdon’s website. They list various powders like Titegroup and Unique for 147gr loads.

If you’re looking for online databases, the Alliance website has extensive load data you can reference. They also provide safety tips, which is super helpful.

In my experience, using W231 powder gives excellent results with 147gr bullets. Just start on the lower end of the charge and work your way up gradually.

Totally agree! I’ve had a lot of success with WSF too. It burns clean and helps keep the velocity steady.

What about using cast bullets? Anyone have a particular load they prefer for 147gr cast in 9mm? I’ve been curious to try that out.

I’ve reloaded cast 147gr using Red Dot powder, and it performs nicely. Just pay attention to sizing. It can be tricky with lead.

Interestingly, I’ve heard some debate on using bullseye powder for 147gr. Some swear by it while others say it’s a bit too fast. What do you all think?

Exactly! Some guys in my club say it’s too snappy for 147gr loads, but I think it depends on your gun too.

For those just starting, always remember to double-check your measurements and load data. Safety first, folks! Not worth a mistake.

What’s the worst that could happen in reloading? Just a small explosion, right? Just kidding, safety is key! Great advice here, though.

Haha! For real, it’s really a fine line. I’ve had some near misses and learned to respect the process.

Don’t forget about using your chrono after you get a baseline load! It helps you fine-tune for accuracy and consistency.

I’m using a 9mm 147gr load with 4.2 grains of Titegroup. The recoil is incredibly manageable, and I’ve noticed better grouping on target. Anyone else have data on velocity and energy metrics?

I’ve had similar experiences! My current favorite load is 3.8 grains of Bullseye. The recoil feels softer, allowing faster follow-up shots.

Great discussion! I’m curious about the bullet trajectory of different manufacturers. I switched to Remington for my 147gr loads, but I’m wondering if the Federal HST would perform better overall.

I’ve run Federal HST and they perform excellently, especially in terminal ballistics. They expand well even through barriers!

Compared to my old loads, the Federal HST has much better expansion and weight retention. I’m also curious about your experiences with recoil management using different loads.

Honestly, I find lighter loads give less recoil in my Glock 19. I guess it’s all about what you’re comfortable with!
