Best Holster Options for Colt Python 4 Inch?

I’m looking for some advice on finding the right holster for my Colt Python with a 4-inch barrel. The options out there seem endless, and I want to make sure I get something that’s both functional and comfortable to use.

Things I’m Considering:

  • Style: I’m not sure if I should go for an OWB (Outside the Waistband) or IWB (Inside the Waistband) holster. What do you all recommend for a gun this size?
  • Material: Leather or Kydex? I’ve heard good things about both, but I’m leaning towards leather for that classic look. Thoughts?
  • Concealment: How do you manage concealment with a larger revolver like the Colt Python? Any tips on holster choices that don’t draw attention but are still accessible?
  • Brand Recommendations: Are there specific brands that you trust for quality holsters? I’ve seen a few options but would love to hear what you guys are using.

Any advice, reviews, or links to good products would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I love leather holsters for my Colt Python. They fit like a glove over time and look classy. Just make sure you condition them regularly!

Leather is great, but I personally prefer Kydex for its durability and retention. It holds the gun securely and is easy to clean.

I agree with arnoldtim! Kydex retains its shape really well. It’s also lightweight and has a nice snap when you draw.

You guys mentioned comfort in holsters, but how about those hybrid models? They combine leather and Kydex for comfort and retention, right?

Absolutely, ryansantiago! Hybrid holsters offer the best of both worlds. I find them super comfortable for all-day wear.

I’ve had a few hybrid holsters that didn’t work out for me—some sort of common issues like squeaking and bulkiness. Anyone else experienced that?

For sure, I had a hybrid one that was bulky. Now, I stick with my leather OWB holster, way more streamlined. Just my preference!

That’s interesting! For those who carry concealed, do you find Kydex works better for that purpose?

Kydex can work well for concealed carry if you get one that hugs the body appropriately. You definitely want retention without printing!

I think retention is key for any carry, but comfort should not be overlooked. Anyone tried custom holsters? What are your thoughts?

Custom holsters are a game changer! You can get that perfect fit for your Colt Python.

Why didn’t I think of custom holsters sooner? I guess I’m just a little Kydex-phobic after seeing some bad reviews. What’s the best way to shop for them?

I usually read reviews and check out second-hand options to avoid high prices. Just make sure you know the return policy!

Great tip! I’m still on the fence about leather versus Kydex, though. I guess it’s really about personal preference.

Proper fit for a Colt Python 4-inch holster is crucial. A snug fit ensures your revolver stays secure and minimizes movement. Consider trying on different holster styles to find what suits your needs best!

Absolutely! Retention methods, like thumb breaks or tension screws, can enhance security. Just make sure it’s comfortable for your draw style.

I agree with Kaylee. You want a perfect balance of comfort and retention. When using it for concealed carry, adjust the cant angle to help with accessibility!

Great point. I find that a cross-draw holster can make things much easier during certain activities.

Don’t forget about materials! Leather holsters can be comfortable but may require breaking in, while Kydex offers quick access and no maintenance. Which do you prefer?
