I’m looking for some recommendations on low recoil loads for my .243 rifle, particularly for new and sensitive shooters. I have a couple of young relatives who are interested in shooting, and I want to ensure they have a comfortable experience without the harsh kick that can come with regular loads.
What I’m Looking For
Ammunition options: What brands or specific loads do you recommend for reduced recoil?
Reloading recipes: If you’re into reloading, could you share some of your favorite recipes that keep recoil manageable?
Techniques/Advice: Any tips for making the shooting experience more enjoyable for someone who may be sensitive to recoil?
Some Considerations
I’ve heard that Hornady offers some reduced recoil ammunition options, but I’m curious if there are other brands out there that perform well. I’d also like to hear about your experiences—did you notice a significant difference in response or accuracy with low recoil loads compared to standard ones?

Availability can definitely be hit or miss right now. I usually check local shops first, but online retailers are also a great option if you can find what you need!
Starting with factory loads can help new shooters build confidence before venturing into reloading—there are some excellent low recoil options out there!
I’m excited to hear about low recoil loads for the .243! I’ve been using IMR 4895 with 85-grain bullets. Very manageable and accurate for new shooters.
For my .243, I’ve been using the Sierra 85-grain GameKing with Re-15 powder. It works well! Don’t forget to adjust your seating depth for best accuracy.
