Anyone Using Shield Plus Mag Extensions? Need Recommendations!

Seeking Advice on Shield Plus Mag Extensions

I’ve recently acquired a Smith & Wesson Shield Plus and I’m really impressed with its performance so far. However, I’m curious about ways to enhance its magazine capacity. I’ve read a few things about mag extensions, but there’s so much information out there that it’s a bit overwhelming.

What I’m Looking For:

  • Recommendations: If you have experience with any specific mag extensions for the Shield Plus, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
  • User Experiences: How did the extensions affect your shooting experience? Did you notice any changes in reliability or ergonomics?
  • Specifications: Are there any particular brands or models that stand out for their quality or features?

Considerations:

  • I mainly use my Shield Plus for personal defense and occasional range practice, so I’m looking for something that balances increased capacity without sacrificing reliability.
  • Price vs. Quality: I’m open to investing in a good quality product, but I’d like to avoid unnecessary spending on brands that might not deliver.

Closing Thoughts:

I’m ready to enhance my Shield Plus setup, and any advice or insights from fellow shooters would be appreciated! Let’s improve our experience together. Cheers!

Looking forward to your suggestions!

I’ve been using the Taran Tactical +3 extensions with my Shield Plus, and they fit perfectly! No issues with jamming or feeding, highly recommend them if you’re looking for something reliable.

That sounds great! Are there any other brands you’ve heard about that work well? I’m curious about the Pearce extensions since I’ve seen mixed reviews.

I’m currently using the Pearce +2 extensions, and honestly, they work just fine for me. Just make sure you get the ones specifically made for the Shield Plus; I’ve seen some confusion with earlier models.

That’s good to hear! Do you find the added capacity makes a noticeable difference in handling?

Absolutely! The handling feels much more balanced with those extensions. Just watch out for the baseplate; I’ve heard they can sometimes pop off under stress.

I’ve tried the Vickers Tactical extensions, and while they add capacity, I had a few issues with feeding initially. A little tweaking helped, but it was annoying. Just something to consider!

That’s interesting to note! I wonder if the feeding issues are just an isolated case or a more common problem with Vickers. Any issues with fit?

They fit great, just had to adjust some springs. Also, seriously think about what you’re using them for - if it’s just CCW, sometimes less is more! Just my two cents.

True that! But sometimes, more ammo makes you feel more secure, right? Just don’t want to overdo it!

Lol, I definitely feel more secure with extra rounds! But yeah, balance is key. I’m still on the fence about which extensions to go with. Decisions, decisions!

I’ve been using the Shield Plus with a mag extension for a few months now. I’ve noticed improved feeding reliability, especially with +1 capacity. No malfunctions so far, but I do keep the feed lips clean.

That’s great to hear, pfreeman! I’m curious about how it feels during long sessions at the range. Any difference?

I’ve had a good experience as well. The mag extension helps with grip, but it can be a bit tricky to conceal. Just something to think about if that’s your concern.

That’s true! I’ve found that the grip improves my accuracy quite a bit. Does anyone else feel that way?

I haven’t experienced any feeding issues either. But I did have a malfunction on the first range day. It was likely my fault for being overly aggressive with the mag insertion.

Tammy, that happens! Practice makes perfect, right? I think it’s about getting used to the extra length.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings. While I appreciate the extra capacity, it sometimes feels like the extension might catch on clothing more than I’d like.

That’s a valid concern! I had an embarrassing moment where mine snagged on my jacket. It definitely affects the draw if you’re not careful!

Overall, I’d say these extensions are good for range use, but for carry, you need to know what you’re comfortable with. A little practice can go a long way!
