I’m looking to dive deeper into the specifics of the 6mm ARC and the 6mm Dasher cartridges, and I’d love to get some insights from those who have experience with them. Both cartridges seem to have their unique strengths, and I’m curious about their performance in various shooting scenarios.
What I’m Interested In:
Accuracy and Precision: Which cartridge offers better accuracy at longer ranges?
Recoil and Shootability: How does recoil compare between the two?
Barrel Life: Any insights on the longevity of barrels for each cartridge?
Reloading: Do either of these cartridges offer a significant advantage in terms of reloading options and ease?
Bullet Selection: What are the more popular bullet types for each?
Practical Use: What do you guys use these for? Competition, hunting, or another application?
I understand that personal preferences play a huge role in this, but I’d really appreciate any personal experiences or data comparisons you might have. Thanks in advance for your help!
I recently tested both calibers for long-range shooting. The 6mm ARC holds its velocity better over distance compared to the 6mm Dasher, which can lose energy quickly. If you’re looking for long-range performance, the ARC might be your best bet!
What about the energy retention? I heard the Dasher is super good for short distances but falls off after about 600 yards. Anyone notice a significant drop in performance at range?
I’ve seen that drop-off with the Dasher too, especially when you push it past 700 yards. The 6mm ARC has a more gradual decrease in energy, so it might be the safer choice for long-range precision shooting.
From what I’ve read, the 6mm ARC also offers a better selection of factory rounds, which is a big plus. It makes it much easier to get good performance without hand-loading.
I’ve had great success with the Dasher in competitions. The accuracy is impressive, but the ARC’s versatility in various conditions is appealing too. I think it comes down to personal preference based on your shooting style.
That’s true! Sometimes, the Dasher feels like a ‘one-trick pony’ compared to the versatility of the ARC. It really depends on what you’re aiming to do.
This is fascinating! Does anyone know how they compare when it comes to wind drift? I’d imagine the heavier bullets in ARC might perform better in windy conditions.
I do believe that the heavier bullets in the 6mm ARC are less affected by wind drift. However, the Dasher can have very flat trajectories which helps. It’s a trade-off for sure!
Honestly, it feels like a battle of the scalpel vs. the hammer between these two! Both have their strengths, just depends on your shooting requirements.
I’ve been reloading both the 6mm ARC and 6mm Dasher, and I find that bullet selection is critical. For the ARC, I’d recommend the Hornady 108 ELD-M, while for the Dasher, check out the Berger 105 VLD. They really shine with their respective cartridges!
I love the versatility of both cartridges, but I lean towards the Dasher for bench rest competitions. For reloading, I recommend using 8208 XBR for both; it’s consistent and gives great velocity.
When it comes to case preparation, I size the 6mm Dasher cases multiple times before loading. This really helps with overall precision. I also trim them to uniform length; it makes a noticeable difference.
