Best AR-15 Magazines

D&H Industries AR-15 7.62x39 Magazine

On the docket first, we’ll be taking a look at the D&H Industries AR-15 7.62x39 magazine. With this magazine, you have the option of equipping your rifle with either 10 rounds or 30 rounds. So the choice will come down to your personal needs and preferences. Either way, you’ll want a magazine that will be reliable in feeding your rifle and ensure that your shots are smooth, fast, and accurate everything you pull the trigger. This magazine is made from high quality materials to ensure durability and will take a good deal of abuse over time.

If you’re looking for a good magazine that will fit an AR-15 7.62x39 caliber rifle, you’d be wise to check out the D&H magazine a little further. Once again, your choice for 10 or 30 rounds will depend on your personal needs and your intended application. If you’re a going to spend a day at the range or use an AR-15 for competition purposes, get the 30 round magazine. If you’re hunting or using your rifle for home defense, then 10 rounds should be ideal.

Main Features

  • Choose between 10-round or 30-round capacity.
  • Made from high quality materials.
  • Constructed in a steel body.

  • Works flawlessly.
  • Will work with most AR-15 compatible rounds without issues.
  • Depending on which round count you choose, they fit any application.

  • May need some cleaning prior to use.
  • Follower is not tilt-proof.
  • One reviewer said that the first round may be a little hesitant to chamber.

The Bottom Line

The D&H Industries magazine is what we consider to be a good magazine for a 7.62x39 AR-15. It’s quite convenient to have them include optional round counts for them. As you’re shopping around for other magazines, remember what we’ve mentioned earlier about rounds counts. A 30-count magazine may be good for one purpose, and may be overkill for another. This is something to also consider if you’re actually going to go with this magazine in particular.

Next on the list, we have the C-Products AR-15 magazine. This has a round capacity of 30 rounds. If you’re looking for a magazine that will give you less loading time and more ammo to work with, the C-Products magazine will likely be the best choice for you. The construction of the magazine consists of highly durable polymer and stainless steel. In plain English, you’re dealing with a very durable magazine from the inside and out. The follower is an anti-tilt follower that is designed to keep your cartridges straight and provide reliable feeding when chambered.

This means this will also be useful when in home defense situations. If you’re looking for a magazine for your AR-15 that is solely used for self-defense, you’ll want to consider the C-Products magazine as one of your additions to your shortlist of finalists.

For the price that it’s going for right now, this is actually a magazine that is worth the look if you’re a budget shopper. While the price tag is low, always hold quality to a higher standard. We say this because sometimes a low price tag can mean cheap and low quality. So pay close attention to the overall quality of the magazine if you’re finding one that will fit your budget.

Main Features:

  • Matte black, non-reflective finish for added stealth.
  • Holds up to 30 rounds.
  • Made from polymer and stainless steel for superior durability.

If these tick off any boxes on your wishlist, then you know the C-Products magazine is your perfect match.

Either way, this is a good magazine if you’re not impressed with the idea of having 30 rounds. If 10 rounds should be enough for you, get this version of the C-Products magazine. Regardless, you’ll still get a very reliable, super tough magazine that is designed to do its job and do it well. What more could you want in a 7.62x39 mm magazine?

With that said, this magazine will serve just as good as a purpose as the 30 round magazine. Use it for hunting, self defense, or if you’re just going to have a short day at the range. Either way, you’ll probably find nothing more reliable than a C-Products magazine.

This includes an anti-tilt follower designed to keep the rounds in their place and will also assist in the feeding process. In fact, it will make feeding more reliable so you can be able to get off your shots much quicker without jamming issues.

If you’re looking for a 30 round magazine that is reliable and will give you more rounds to play around with and less reloading, then the Pro-Mag magazine could be the best possible option for you. Whether it’s a day at the range or in the heat of competition, you’ll need a good enough amount of rounds to power you through. • Some adjustments may be needed to ensure a perfect fit.
  • May not fit all AR-15 7.62x39mm rifles.

The Bottom Line

ProMag is considered to be a good reliable brand when it comes to magazines. So if you’re looking for another go-to brand, this might be it. This magazine in particular is a good as it gets for 30 rounds. It’s reliable all round in terms of feeding and is easy to apply and detach from your gun. Plus, if you need to reload, you won’t have to struggle with it since it will be a smooth, fast process. Aside from all this, you’re looking at a pretty good AR-15 magazine that is worth a much closer look. That is of course, if this is the magazine that interests you most.

Magpul 30 Round PMag Gen2 MOE Magazine

Next on the docket, we have the Magpul 30 Round PMag Gen2 Magazine. While this is a magazine that is typically designed for AK-47s, this is also designed to fit any rifle with a Kalashnikov-style pattern. But does it fit 7.62x39mm AR-15s? It does, but we’ll go into further detail in how that’s possible later on. For now, let’s take a quick look at this magazine in particular. This contains up to 30 rounds and contains a highly reliable, low friction follower that is designed to make the feeding process as smooth as possible. Even better, the follower is anti-tilt and a self-lubricated one at that. If that doesn’t impress you, we’re not sure what will.

The body of this magazine is constructed from high quality polymer. And it is impervious to all kinds of damage and abuse. When you hear the words “impact and crush resistant”, you know that you’re dealing with the toughest S.O.B. on the block. Not bad for a magazine that can hold up to 30 rounds. This is ideal for home defense, hunting, target shooting, or competition applications. In short, it’s an all-purpose magazine. If you’re looking for something like this, then the Magpul could very well be the magazine of choice for you.

Main Features:

  • Self-lubricating, anti-tilt follower.
  • Holds up to 30 rounds.
  • Constructed from polymer for superior durability.

  • Can handle the worst weather conditions possible. It’s also immune to damage from cleaning solvents and oils.
  • Great for any application.
  • Functions very well without issues after 100+ rounds fired.

  • Some have had concerns about the locking lug. While the magazine itself is quite strong, this appears to be the weakest link.
  • May need some adjustments to your AR-15 rifle to ensure a perfect fit.

The Bottom Line

The Magpul magazine to our understanding is a must have for 7.62x39 rifle owners. It doesn’t matter if you have an AK-47 or a rifle that is compatible with the specific caliber we’re dealing with. This magazine is arguably one of the most reliable that we’ve seen thus far. The main reason is the anti-tilt follower that has the ability to lubricate itself. Which means that you may not need to apply any kind of magazine lube. However, don’t mistake that for the idea of foregoing any kind of cleaning. You still need your magazine to be cleaned in order for it continue functioning properly. With that in mind, if you’re looking for a magazine that can give you great number of rounds plus a durable, strong as a tank gun accessory, look no further than the Magpul.

Ruger Mini Thirty 7.62x39mm Caliber Magazine

For our last magazine on the list, we’re going to be taking a look at the Ruger Mini Thirty 7.62x39mm magazine. Right off the bat, you’ll notice that this is constructed from high quality polymer. Without a doubt, this is designed to be one tough unit. Not to mention, this also contains up to 20 rounds of ammo. This is as close to a mil-spec magazine that you can find for a AR-15 7.62x39mm caliber. So if you’re looking for something like that, then you might want to consider the Ruger magazine a little further.

Ruger is considered to be one of the most reliable brands that longtime gun makers have often considered reliable. If you’re new to purchasing guns or accessories, it may not be smart to buy on the name alone just yet. If you’re happy with the brand and the consistent results you’ve been getting, then that’s when you know getting it based on a name you trust is the smart thing to do. But we digress. If you’re looking for a magazine that is ideal for just about any purpose for your AR-15, then you might want to purchase a Ruger magazine of your own.

Main Features:

  • Fits 20 rounds.
  • Made from high quality polymer.
  • Military specs.

  • Priced at an affordable rate for budget shoppers.
  • Smooth and reliable operation and feeding.
  • High in quality overall.

  • Despite being an affordable price, some have complained that it’s still pricey.
  • Will likely accept factory rounds, according to one reviewer. But nothing else.

The Bottom Line

If you’re the kind of AR-15 owner that likes to buy mil-spec accessories, you might be pleased with the Ruger magazine. At 20 rounds, you’re sitting right in the middle between those who prefer 10 rounds and those who prefer 30 rounds. Either way, this is a very good magazine designed for whatever application you can think of with your AR-15 rifle.

Aspects To Consider Before Purchasing An AR-15 7.62x39 Magazine

Prior to buying your own magazine, there are some things that you may need to consider. Some of these aspects may play a role in your final buying decision. It is important to look a little closely at these aspects so you don’t end up buying one that winds up being low in quality. Buyer’s remorse is the last thing we want you to go through. With that in mind, here are a list of things to look out for while looking for a magazine:

Of course, we place quality at a high standard. Especially when it comes to the guns and accessories that we use. In this case, we’re talking about the kind of AR-15 magazine that fits a certain caliber. Most magazines will be constructed by steel. Most steel-bodied magazines are considered to be the best in durability. Not to be outdone, these magazines will include other materials like polymer to ensure that the magazines don’t damage easily if they somehow fall freely and hit the floor or ground.

How Many Rounds Do You Need?

There are several magazines each with a different number of capacities. Some will have 10 rounds, others will have 20 or 30 rounds. Your decision will depend on the intent and purpose of your AR-15 7.62x39mm rifle. If you’re a competitive shooter, then you’ll want something with more rounds and less reloading. If you’re looking for a self-defense magazine, either capacity is fine. But one rule of thumb to consider is that with one purpose, a capacity of 30 would be fine. But if you feel like that it’s overkill for another purpose, then choose a magazine with a lower count.

It is always a top priority to consider reliability as something to look for. More specifically, you need a magazine that is reliable in terms of feeding ammo through the chamber. At the same time, you want to get each shot off with just enough speed and accuracy. Some of the magazines will have an anti-tilt feature to ensure that the rounds are loaded properly and stay in place. You should look for an anti-tilt magazine if you hold reliability to a higher standard.

As always, there will be a handful of people who will make price a key determination in their final purchasing decision. This is an aspect that is mostly used by budget shoppers. The important thing to also look out for when looking at a low price tag is the overall quality. Remember, anything that is high in quality and low in price is what you should be aiming for when looking for a gun or any accessory.

Will an AK-47 7.62x39mm work with an AR-15?

The short answer is:it depends. However the long answer is that you need a proprietary upper that has to be compatible with a lower that can fit mags that are wide like AK-47 magazines. Most AR-15 7.62x39 mm may not accommodate that. If you’re planning on using an AK-47 magazine that is compatible with the same caliber rounds, you should consider looking for uppers and lowers that can allow these types of magazines to fit properly on your AR-15.

Finding the best AR-15 7.62x39mm magazine doesn’t have to be a challenge. If you know what you’re looking for, the process is smooth sailing from there. There is a reliable magazine for you out there. Be sure to check out the magazines listed above and choose the best one of them all. Make sure that you know about any additional information like what people are saying about it before putting in the investment.

  1. I have an Eagle Arms M15A2 Lower with a 7.62×39 upper. I\’m interested in knowing what it takes to get the magpul magazine to fit this AR platform

  2. Does anyone know if polymer 7.62×39 AR-15 Magazines exist? if not, does anyone know why? I feel like this would be a welcome addition to the magazine lineup, since the CPD magazines are a little pricey and hard to find, and there are mixed reviews of the ASC magazines (I personally have not tried ASC magazines, only CPD).

    Would appreciate any information.

  4. Only the D&H magazine and the C product magazines will actually fit into an AR15 chambered in 7.62×39. The other magazines on this list are for completely different weapons systems. The promag and magpul magazines are AK pattern magazines. The Ruger mags mentioned in this article are for the Mini 30 rifle. Pretty inaccurate information in this article. Good luck

  5. ASC mags are the most reliable and I don’t see them on the list as stated before the author of this article is a moron for suggesting magazines that aren’t even for the ar platform
